In celebration of NAIDOC Week 2026, Council will be holding a special display of NAIDOC posters from the past five decades, on exhibition from 6 – 17 July.
The 2026 NAIDOC Week theme is ‘50 Years of Deadly’, marking a milestone and a tribute to the people who built the NAIDOC movement, the Elders who stood firm, the organisers who made space, the artists who turned resistance into expression and the communities who keep showing up, year after year.
Mayor Robert Taylor noted NAIDOC Week is a time to honour and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
“NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories, and to participate in celebrations. For five decades and counting, it has celebrated the voices of our communities – steady, unapologetic and proud.
“Council’s NAIDOC Week display collates 50 years of powerful NAIDOC posters. The display invites our community to pause, reflect and celebrate how NAIDOC has grown and changed since its beginnings in the 1970s,” said Mayor Taylor.
The ‘50 Years of NAIDOC Posters’ exhibition will be displayed in the Wattle Foyer at Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre (BMEC) from Monday 6 – Friday 17 July 2026 during BMEC opening hours.
Bathurst Library will also have a slideshow of the poster collection running on their interior large screen throughout NAIDOC Week.
