Melissa Barber is an independent artist based in Canowindra, New South Wales. Her work is renown for its combination of the use of gold and silver, a detailed, jewell like quality and photographic realism. The union of the ornamental and the historical is a favourite theme, accompanied by the influence of Chinese, Japanese and Byzantine art. Her work is now predominantly exhibited at her studio in Canowindra and occasionally with other commercial galleries with whom she collaborates.
The studio welcomes visits of small groups strictly by appointment and when visiting the studio, enjoy tea and cake on the verandah whilst discussing life and art. She opened her first gallery in Canowindra in 1999 featuring solely her own work and a second in 2015 which established a strong independent approach in bringing an audience to her work. Her paintings are in collections throughout Australia and internationally.
