The Bx Poetry Slam is Just Around the Corner

As the cooler weather closes in and the sun begins setting earlier, the Bathurst Writers’ and Readers’ Festival provides cosy entertainment for literature lovers.

On Tuesday 19 May, at 6pm, BMEC and the Bathurst Poets’ Society are proud to host the Bx Poetry Slam. Poets are encouraged to sign up to perform a poem up to 2 minutes long. It can be on any topic, in any style, so long as it’s an original work. Anyone who feels as though they have something to say is encouraged to sign up as a poet and step up to the microphone. This is an all ages event, and prizes are awarded to the winners.

The audience gets to be part of the fun as well. Audience members are encouraged to click their fingers, tap their feet, and give an Auslan round of applause any time a poet says something they connect with. Judges are chosen at random from the audience to provide instant feedback by giving scores out of 10. No experience in poetry analysis is needed. Highest scores are given to the works the audience judges love the most – for any reason!

Feature Poet of the evening is Bathurst local, Alice Blackwood, NSW State Finalist of the Australian Poetry Slam. Tiph Harris, also a NSW State Finalist, will MC the evening. They are excited to guide you through an evening celebrating poets from around our region.
