Women Artists of the Collection first show at reopened Lithgow Union Theatre Gallery space

The front room at Lithgow’s Union Theatre has been set up as an exhibition space for some years, but a new partnership between Arts OutWest and Lithgow City Council will trial a new model for activating it long term as a local gallery.

The first exhibition is up now and highlights artworks by women artists that are held in the Lithgow City Council collection and coincides with International Women’s Day.

The Lithgow City council artwork collection is a permanent collection which includes a diverse range of artforms that reflects the practices from the Region.

From April to June the space will then feature artist or group of artists currently working in the Lithgow LGA. Each artist will take on the space for a month, for a small hire fee, coordinated by Arts Outwest. Three local artists have been programmed in this initial trail, and if it proves successful an application process will be opened.

The gallery will be open THIS FRIDAY 6 March 10am-2pm with other dates TBC (check the Arts OutWest website), at the Union Theatre Gallery, 65 Bridge St, Lithgow.

The pilot program will be evaluated in July 2026.

Lithgow City Council is one of 12 contributing councils to the Arts OutWest regional arts development program.
